There are plenty of ways in which people can achieve a healthy body. Although the methods differ, the goals remain the same, which are to burn off calories and maintain an ideal weight. Burning off more calories than what you take in can help you get back to your ideal weight. Not only will you feel better, but you will look better when you shed that weight.
The way to burn calories requires you to move a lot. Many prefer cardio exercises like jogging on a treadmill or using an elliptical trainer. Another alternative to consume calories is through an exercise bike workout. Exercise bikes work like regular bikes, but they are stationary. A typical exercise bike in the gym has an electronic heart monitor which enables you to track your heart rate and maintain the heart rate level during the exercise routine.
Stationary bike workouts are ideal for those who need to burn off lots of body fat. You can even do it at home and never deal with travelling to and from the gym. You can also create your own exercise bike workout schedule. You can also maximize your time while doing a stationary bike workout such as you wait for the food to cook or watch TV. Studies have revealed that boredom while doing exercise dampens the mood which is why it is good to be entertained while exercising like listening to your favorite music or having a workout buddy to talk with.
The most obvious benefits of doing a bike workout is being able to increase your metabolism and tone down your upper and lower legs without stressing your lower back, knees and joints. Problem areas like the butt and waistline will also be targeted.
An exercise bike workout is not simply riding the stationary bike and then pedalling away until you get tired. The bike has an adjustable tension that enables you to increase or decrease the load that you should exert. You can do interval training and target many muscle groups. You need to be able to reach a range for your heart rate at a specific span of time like 120 bpm for 1 minute continuously which is why the heart rate monitor is important. It is a scientific way of burning off calories which can also be fun for you. You need to warm up your body first before you start to make your heart ready for the exercise bike workout.
You need to familiarize yourself with the exercise bike you are using and you should know how to adjust the level of resistance and how to monitor your heart rate. For stationary bikes inside the gym, most of them can be connected to a headset in which you can tune in to the TV set or listen to music while you do your workout.
To give you an example on how to burn as many calories as you can with exercise bike workouts and lose weight in the process, here is a sample interval workout in which there are intense efforts needed and then a short recovery period follows:
- Warm up thoroughly and get pass the low intensity level.
- When your heart rate is at the right level, exert intense effort for about 8 seconds.
- Ease up a bit for 12 seconds. This is what you call the recovery period.
- Repeat the intense effort phase and the recovery period phase for about 20 minutes.
The recovery period can be adjusted depending on your fitness level. The longer that you do this exercise bike workout, the higher the level of resistance you can adjust the stationary bike to. Stationary bikes are a great tool to use to achieve your weight loss goals.
